Click HERE to e-mail us with suggestions of other sites that would fit Dragon Environmental Network "Dragon links environmental action with magical practice. We draw from many magical traditions and everyone is welcome. We focus our energies on eco-magic, using magic and ritual to stop environmental destruction and channel positive energy to those who protect the land."
Treesponsibility, Calderdale
"Treesponsibility in Calderdale is a not-for profit community group, based on mutual accountability and consensus. We have a small "core" group of members with a wider circle of people who subscribe to our newsletter and turn up to tree plantings. So far, we've managed to plant about 30,000 trees and hedge plants, and we've also written a book!
Our aims are to:
World Development Movement "The World Development Movement tackles the underlying causes of poverty. We lobby decision makers to change the policies that keep people poor. We research and promote positive alternatives. We work alongside people in the developing world who are standing up to injustice." Stop The War Coalition Central site co-ordinating regional anti war groups opposed to America's ongoing post 9-11 campaign to invade anyone they perceive as terrorist threat. Amnesty UK "Amnesty International is a worldwide voluntary movement of people who campaign for human rights. We are independent of any government, political ideology, economic interest or religion. Our vision is of a world in which every person enjoys all of the human rights enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and other international human rights standards." Greenpeace UK "Greenpeace is an independent non-profit global campaigning organization that uses non-violent, creative confrontation to expose global environmental problems and their causes. We research the solutions and alternatives to help provide a path for a green and peaceful future." Globalise Resistance "Globalise Resistance brings together groups and individuals opposed to the global growth of corporate power." Arts & Media The Sigilhouse "The Sigilhouse opens its doors to all whose spirituality and/or world view recognises a Magical perspective. For some of us the concept of Magic is not limited to fanciful nursery tales or ignorant superstition; neither is it a concept which has been rendered powerless by the onrush of science and technology. For some of us the recognition of the *possibility* of Magic is an essential element in the state of being truly and effectively human. ... The Sigihouse aims to provide virtual community - fellowship, inspiration, networking and shared resources - for this loose grouping of individuals." Godhaven Ink Merrick Godhaven was an activist participant in the campaign against the building of the infamous Newbury Bypass in 1996. Out of those experiences he wrote the brilliant 'Battle for the Trees'. See some of the things he's up to now at Godhaven Ink, and here, and here too! Re-Pressed Distribution "Re-pressed is a relatively new non profit, anti-civilization orientated anarchist book distribution project." LeedsMusicScene Excellent website for purveyors and consumers of live and recorded music in Leeds. 10,000 Things Fascinating website run by the father of one of the members of the band of the same name. This site has info and features on Buddhist themes (whence the title - and the band's name), info on the campaign for a Free Tibet, and stuff on Robert (Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance) Pirsig, Stonehenge - and VW Camper Vans(!)... Very cool. UK Independent Media Center Indymedia UK is a network of individuals, independent and alternative media activists and organisations, offering grassroots, non-corporate, non-commercial coverage of important social and political issues. SchNEWS "SchNEWS was born in a squatted Courthouse in Brighton in 1994 as part of Brighton's campaign against the Criminal Justice Act when a few bright sparks decided to start reading out the news. Some of those bright sparks then decided to put some of it on paper - eight years later and still printing! ... Then in February 1998 some of the crew went to Geneva to the first ever Peoples Global Action conference. Here we met people involved in grassroots protests from across the world, swapped stories, made friendships and began to see the bigger picture, and with many others who had been involved in localised direct action campaigns, our attention now turned to also attacking the corporate carve-up of the entire planet." Networking Newsletter - Manchester UK "The Networking Newsletter Project puts those interested in a better, fairer, greener world in touch with each other. This is achieved via this web site (updated at least twice a week) and a (usually) monthly printed newsletter, which cover campaigns, news and forthcoming events for human rights, animal rights, the environment, development and peace issues. Free web pages are available to member groups, and the Project also provides training and support in all aspects of campaigning successfully." Alternative Press Centre (US) "The Alternative Press Center (APC) is a non-profit collective dedicated to providing access to and increasing public awareness of the alternative press. Founded in 1969, it remains one of the oldest self-sustaining alternative media institutions in the United States. For more than a quarter of a century, the Alternative Press Index has been recognized as a leading guide to the alternative press in the United States and around the world." The Levellers 'Folk-Punk' band whose music advocates Green and Anarchist politics ...Supporters of Justice! who were formed to fight the Criminal Justice Act and originated ‘SchNEWS’. [See above] Oysterband "Bands like The Levellers had been building a fervent following with an alternative indie approach that embraced many of the values pioneered by Oysterband. ...the Oysters suddenly found themselves talked of as godfathers of a new English style of roots rock. ...it came as a shock to them to discover they were now 'leaders of a movement'." Chumbawamba Website and web resource hosted by the anarchist/activist band."Go to where the silence is and say something." The Shed "The Shed is one of the smallest venues in the universe (internal measurements 22ft x 26ft) and the atmosphere is special. We welcome people from all over the UK and Europe who travel to see the world's leading musicians and poets perform in this intimate and friendly space - where it's impossible to be more than 20ft from the stage."
